MORE ABOUT STANTON HOUSE

Activities and visits:
Stanton House is a good base for walks. Plans of the grounds and the immediate surroundings and details of a Stanton St John village trail and of walks further afield are available, as are details of numerous places of interest to visit in Oxford and the surrounding area.

Shopping etc:
The village shop in Stanton St John carries a range of basic goods as well as offering sub-post office services. The village also has two public houses, The Star and The Talk House, both offering meals. A reasonable range of shops is available in Headington. A cluster of superstores is grouped around the Cowley interchange on the eastern Oxford bypass, and Oxford city centre contains not only the university colleges and cathedral, but also a full range of department stores, specialist shops, museums, restaurants and other city facilities.

Travel to Oxford:
A bus service links Oxford directly with Stanton St John but this is fairly infrequent and does not run on Sundays or Bank Holidays. Parking is very expensive in Oxford, but the Park & Ride bus service, which runs every 10 minutes from the Thornhill Park and Ride car park, is readily accessible on the A40 to London.

Churches:
Details of services in the village church and other local Anglican churches are regularly displayed, and a folder in the entrance hall publicises information about other churches in the area.
